Kenya: Kenya’s beer market to be enlivened by a new local brand
Brewery news

Kenya’s beer market is set to come alive again after seven years of a quiet run that was ushered in by the exit of South Africa’s Castle Breweries in 2002, Business Daily Africa communicated on August 11.

Before the end of the month, a new locally brewed brand will be competing for space in the bar shelves that are currently dominated by the regional giant, East African Breweries Limited (EABL).

Naivasha-based Keroche Breweries is gearing up for the launch of what its proprietors say are beers for the mass market taking the war directly to the doorsteps of EABL, a well-known brand with an unflattering record in consumer market wars.

Depending on the positioning of the Keroche brands in the market, this entry of new products should come as a big relief to beer consumers who have seen the pricing of their favourite drinks move in only one direction in the past seven years — up.
