Russia: A newly created malting barley variety to be tested in November
Russia’s Belselect research centre has developed a new variety of malting barley, mediatron.ru published on October, 23.
“The new barley is to be ranked among Europe’s best malting barley varieties,” Veniamin Navolotsky, director of the Belgorod-based centre, claimed.
“It will most likely receive the name of ‘Svyatich’. Its testing is planned for November, but I’m sure it will pass it successfully,” Navolotsky said.
The Zevs and Veles malting barley varieties created by Belselect are widely farmed across Russia. In the director’s opinion, the new variety will also enjoy high popularity.
