France: Almost 400 brewers active in France this year

France’s beer industry numbers a total of 391 breweries, according to the freshly published Annuaire 2011 des Brasseries Françaises.

The total number comprises 17 brewery training centres, 49 farm-breweries, 194 microbreweries, 68 brewpubs, 49 craft and 14 industrial breweries. France’s total beer output is estimated at 16.5 – 17.3 mln hl.

According to the Annuaire, France’s micro- and craft breweries produced 310 thousand hl of beer last year, a 24% increase versus 2009.
