UK: Barley and wheat usage for brewing, malting and distilling increases in August 2011
In August 2011 compared with August 2010, UK brewers, maltsters and distillers total wheat usage was 45 thousand tonnes, up 19%, Defra reported on October, 6.
Total barley usage was 150 thousand tonnes in August, up 11%.
In the first two months of the current crop year, total wheat usage by British brewers, maltsters and distillers amounted to 86.6 thousand tonnes, up 18.9% versus the same period in 2010/11.
July-August barley usage was 287.8 thousand tonnes, an increase of 9.1%, Defra reported.
