USA, VA: Devil's Backbone Brewery to finish construction
Brewery news

Last week, owners of the new Devils Backbone Brewing Company facility opened the brewery's doors for what they called a sawdust party, WSLS reported on November, 16.

Basically, the event gave some community members the chance to see what the business is all about.

Construction is in its final stages. Right now, carpenters, electricians and even German engineers are working to get all the equipment up and running.

Owner Steve Crandall and Lead Brewer, Nathan Olewine, say their technology is pretty advance for a company this size.

“For someone on our scale this is certainly something unique,” Olewine said.

They're going to start brewing in the vessels in early December and then distribute the beer on draft in January.

“People are deciding that they want something a little more unique than the typical large scale breweries have been producing and so it's really started on the west coast and it's moving east,” Crandall said.

In fact, the facility came about after the company's Nelson County brew pub couldn't meet increased production needs.

Next year they hope to produce the equivalent of 22,000 kegs of craft beer.

“The craft breweries and the brew pubs in Virginia are seeing a lot of success, a lot of traffic,” said Crandall.

However, right now Devils Backbone Brewing Company is seeing mostly construction traffic.
