Russia: Minister of Agriculture stresses the need for closer collaboration between malting barley farmers and brewers
Elena Skrynnik, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, has recently stressed the need for alignment of the interaction between producers of malting barley and brewers for the long term prospect, AgriMarket.Info reported on December, 7.
To date Russia has the significant potential of malting barley production (high quality seeds of domestic and foreign selection, varietal diversity), the Government realizes sufficient measures of support in the form of subsidies for purchasing of elite seeds, chemicals, etc., to increase production volumes of malting barley in the country, the Minister said.
The general demand of the brewing industry in barley totals at least 2.5 mln tonnes, since 2007 the country imports annually nearly 400 thousand tonnes of the grain.
In general, the country produces over 17 mln tonnes of milling and feed barley.
