Germany: Winter barley area unchanged for 2012 harvest

According to the federal statistics office (DESTATIS), the German winter grain area for the 2012 harvest reached 5.5 mln ha, which is unchanged from the 5.5 mln ha planted for the 2011 harvest.

Winter wheat area is projected slightly higher at 3.23 (3.21) mln ha, while acreage for winter barley is seen unchanged at 1.2 (1.2) mln ha, that for rye higher at 665,000 (600,000) ha and that of triticale lower at 376,000 (385,000).

Winter rapeseed acreage is projected lower at 1.32 (1.45) mln ha.
