UK: Imports of barley up 21 thousand tonnes in July-January
UK’s barley imports in January were reported by HGCA last week at 26.6 thousand tonnes compared with exports of 11.2 thousand tonnes, making the UK a net-importer of barley in January for the second this season; the UK was also a net-importer in September. However, on a cumulative basis for the season to date, the UK remains a net-exporter.
Cumulative barley imports for the Jul-Jan 2012/13 period are reported at 115 thousand tonnes, which is 21 thousand more than the same period in 2011/12. Exports for the same period were reported nearly 40% lower than in 2011/12 at 320 thousand tonnes (compared to 591 thousand tonnes).
