USA, IN: Byway Brewing Co. to open by end of December
Brewery news

On August 10, some of the partners in the Byway Brewing Co. joined with Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr., various council members and others for the groundbreaking of their planned brewery and restaurant. Dave Toth, one of the partners, estimated the 12,000-square-foot building could open in late November of early December, nwitimes.com reported on August 11.

Toth had earlier estimated that 15-17 people might be employed by the company initially. Based on the experience of other microbreweries, he speculated that could grow to a few dozen people within three or four years. The partners were expected to invest about $2.3 million for construction of the facility.

Hammond sold Byway Brewing Co. a 2.39-acre site for $336,000 with $331,000 of the cost coming by way of a forgivable note. If Byway Brewing Co. is still in operation in five years, the partners will not have to pay anything beyond an earnest payment of $5,000 for the land. Hammond, in June, also agreed to provide another $150,000 in tax increment financing money to shore up the soil at the site.

"The great thing about this location is that if we're successful, we have plenty of room to expand. We will never have to move from this location and we're excited about that," Toth said.
