USA, OH: Crooked Handle Brewing Co. to open in Springboro by mid-November

Crooked Handle Brewing Co. is about to open in the northern parts of the Greater Cincinnati metro area, WCPO reported on August 18.

Construction on Springboro’s new Crooked Handle Brewing Co. is under way and owners said they hope to open as early as mid-November.

The brewery is located at 760 N. Main St. in the Marketplace at Settler’s Walk development, Springboro. Jeff Pedro Jr., Jason Moore and Chris Bruce co-founded the brewery and Moore serves as head brewer.

The 3,600 square-foot brewery and taproom will feature a 3 bbl. (barrel) brew house. The company will start off with three 3 bbl. fermenters and one 7 bbl. fermenter. The owners hope to add one more 7 bbl. fermenter in their first year.

Pedro said Moore has been brewing beer at home for seven years and has used a commercial pilot system for almost the last five years. The team has also sought guidance from several Dayton-area breweries.

“We have been testing and refining well over 20 recipes on this system. We continue to develop relationships with other Dayton breweries. I am proud to say that all have been very welcoming and allowed [Moore] to shadow brew days and share ideas,” Pedro said.

“We plan to ‘bridge the gap’ with our style of ales. Whether someone in new to craft beer or a seasoned taster, we have a variety of recipes that will appeal to all. Initial line-up will be an IPA, English Mild, Oatmeal Stout, Blonde Ale, Amber Ale, and a seasonal that has not been decided yet,” Pedro said.

The brewers said they hope to eventually open a large production facility to distribute their beers and to can or bottle the beers for retail.
