Romania: Average alcohol beverages consumption estimated at 2.2 litres a month in 2014
A Romanian drinks an average of 2.2 litres of alcoholic beverages a month, especially beer and wine, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS), Romania-Insider.com reported on January 6.
In 2014, a Romanian drank an average of 4.8 litres of mineral water and other soft drinks per month, 1.1 litres of beer, 0.9 litres of wine, and 0.2 litres of plum brandy and natural spirits, reports local Agerpres.
When compared to 2011, the mineral water and other soft drinks consumption was 4% higher in 2014, the beer consumption increased by 5.8%, and wine consumption went up by 2.5%.
In 2014, the total consumption expenditure amounted to RON 1,637 (some EUR 368) per month/household, on average. About 7.7% of this sum was spent on alcohol and cigarettes while 40% was allocated for food and soft drinks.
Between 2011 and 2014, the food and soft drinks have held the highest share in the total consumption expenditure – 40%. However, the number decreased by 1.7 percentage points in 2014 compared to 2011.
