USA, OH: Columbus getting another craft brewery – Commonhouse Ales
Columbus is getting another craft brewery, but this one is a little different, Columbus Dispatch reported on January 19.
Lenny Kolada, the owner of Smokehouse Brewing Co., is leasing Columbus Brewing Co.'s old space and equipment at 535 Short St. and opening a new production brewery, Commonhouse Ales. The new company will be a B-Corp, a for-profit company certified by the non-profit B Lab for social responsibility and other criteria.
Kolada started a community fund, Commonhouse Shares, with the Columbus Foundation that will receive $1 from the sale of every six-pack of the new brewery's flagship beer, Columbus Common.
"Now is the time to take craft beer to the next level," Kolada said in a statement. "Beer is good, but want to use beer for good."
The new brewery will distribute its beers throughout central Ohio beginning at the end of April. Commonhouse Ales will be a separate operation from Smokehouse Brewery, but some of the beers from Smokehouse, which was once affiliated with Barley's Brewing Co., may make it into the Commonhouse rotation.
