USA, IA: Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. to invest nearly $10 mln in expansion
Brewery news

Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. of Decorah, IA plans a nearly $10 million expansion, kwwl.com reported on February 12.

This will be the second new expansion for the company since they opened their doors back in 2009.

Owners say it feels amazing to keep up with the demand.

From start to finish, it takes nearly three weeks to brew and prepare a batch of beer.

Toppling Goliath President and Founder, Clark Lewey, said he's mostly looking forward to the first batch after they get settled into their new Brew House in Decorah in 2017.

"It's exciting on one end, but there are also a lot of unknowns," Lewey said.

Toppling Goliath is a 30-Barrel Brewhouse, but due to demand, they hope to expand to a 100-barrel Brewhouse.

That's nearly 200 kegs a day of hoppy deliciousness.

"It really won't change the emphasis on the beer we make. We do have some styles we will be adding. What it allows us to do is produce more of the beer we're making, which we're nowhere meeting with our current demand," Lewey said.

Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. Brewmaster, Mike Saboe, said the process has been kind of surreal.

"It's a really nice feeling to have. I think we've been so busy the past six years that it's just starting to sink in now. We try to take time to enjoy that on as much as we can and stay focused on the future," Saboe said.

Future projections for Toppling Goliath are good.

Owners say they hope to eventually expand distribution to every state in the nation.

"We started off trucking beer around Decorah ourselves, and we were doing little local spots. Now since we've grown up, we're pouring beer in five states now," Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. Sales Manager, Nick Murphy said.

Toppling Goliath owners say they plan to break ground on their new project this April, and they hope to be brewing beer by 2017.

According to Lewey, the expanded location will offer nearly 20 full-time positions once it's up and running.
