USA, CT: Concentric Brewing Co. could launch in Berlin in the first quarter of 2017
Concentric Brewing Co. is another step closer to opening its doors in Berlin, Connecticut, New Britain Herald reported on July 19.
The Planning and Zoning Commission recently approved a special permit and site plan that will allow the brewpub to operate at 817 Farmington Ave., the former home of A.S. Labieniec’s Feed and Grain Store.
Prior to PZC approval, the Zoning Board of Appeals approved the location, along with both indoor and outdoor service, said Hellyn Riggins, director of development services. According to the proposed site plan, a deck with outdoor seating will run along the portion of the brick building facing Farmington Avenue.
The proposal for the brewpub, which would be the town’s first, was brought to the PZC in January by David J. Peichert of Middletown, a co-owner of Concentric Brewing Co.
The business, which is owned by Peichert and business partners Brian Aida and Joshua Superchi, will include a taproom, bar and seating inside, with additional tables outdoors. Customers will be able to participate in beer tastings, order a beer at the bar, and buy sealed bottles to take home, Peichert said.
The owners plan to brew a variety of beers, including IPAs, stouts, sours and Belgian-style drafts, Peichert said. The brews will also feature flavorings made with fruit, vegetables and coffee, he added.
Now that town approval has been secured, Peichert needs to get approval from the federal Alcohol and Tobacco Taxing Bureau to make the beer, he says.
“Once we get that, we move onto the state to get our liquor permit,” he said.
Peichert says he expects the brew pub to be open for business in the first quarter of 2017.
