USA, PA: The Millworks Brewery in midtown Harrisburg begins brewing its own beer
Brewery news

In keeping with its local philosophy, The Millworks in midtown Harrisburg has begun brewing its own beer, PennLive.com reported on August 19.

The first rounds of craft beer will be served beginning Aug. 23, the same day the Millworks opens its new 165-seat rooftop biergarten, said Patrick Garrity, operations manager.

"We do food from scratch. Now we are going to do some craft beer," he said.

The Millworks Brewery features a 15-barrel system to create draughts that will be on tap at the restaurant at 340 Verbeke St.

The following beers initially will be offered: Session ale, Oktoberfest, Saison, IPA, Double IPA, Belgian pale ale and a Farmhouse IPA.

Earlier this year, Millworks' owner Josh Kesler said the brewery was part of the facility's original concept, but they opted to add it after opening the restaurant.

They hired brewmaster Jeff Musselman who has worked at Troegs Brewing Company, Weyerbacher Brewing Company and Hauser Estate Winery.

Some of the beers, including the Farmhouse IPA, are made with 100 percent sourced Pennsylvania ingredients, Garrity said. Ingredients such as hops are sourced from Sunny Brae Hops in Carlisle.

The Millworks opened in 2015 and focuses its menu on local and sustainable ingredients. The complex houses more than two dozen artist studios and an art gallery.

Garrity said diners have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the rooftop biergarten, which expands the options for visitors.

"It's really just continues to make it a destination for Harrisburg and central Pa. You have a lot of great things under one roof," he said.

Visitors can sip beer or wine on the rooftop biergarten or order light fare such as sandwiches and charcuterie, he said, adding there are great views of the city from the rooftop.

The Millworks now joins another midtown brewery, Zeroday Brewing which opened in in 2015.
