Of beer, an enthusiast has said that it could never be bad, but that some brands might be better than others.

USA, VA: Crooked Run Brewing to launch its second brewery in Sterling in early 2017
Brewery news

Crooked Run Brewing, a small brewery and tasting room in Leesburg, will open a second ten-barrel brewery and tasting room at 22455 Davis Drive in Sterling in early 2017. The new location will allow Crooked Run to brew bigger batches of its classic beers, to continue developing new styles, and to begin distribution, Brewbound.com reported on August 30.

The brewery first opened its doors in Leesburg’s Market Station In 2013. It was started by 25-year-old Jake Endres and Lee Rogan, at that time the youngest brewery owners in the state of Virginia, with the help of crowd-sourced funds raised through Kickstarter. In the three years since, Crooked Run has gained a following in Leesburg, particularly for their chili IPAs, sours, and Belgian-style ales made with fresh, local ingredients, and has developed a reputation for creativity and experimentation in brewing.

In May 2016, after three years in business, Crooked Run won a gold medal for its saison Supernatural at World Beer Cup, one of the most prestigious beer competitions in the world — a major accomplishment for the tiny three-barrel nanobrewery. In May 2016 Crooked Run was mentioned as “Best Nanobrewery” in the Washington area by the Washington Post.

The new location in Sterling, a 6800-square-foot brewery that includes a 2000-square-foot tasting room, will both offer on-premise beers and allow for distribution to the DMV region. The original Leesburg location will be used to produce sour beers, helmed by award-winning brewer Brad Erickson, but will continue to have all styles on tap in the tasting room.

Crooked Run plans three year-round beers — Red Kolsch, a light red ale served on nitro, Cherry Cayenne Storm, a chili and fruit IPA with chilis grown hydroponically at the location, and Verdant Force, a double dry-hopped double IPA — as well as a rotating selection of seasonal beers. In addition, many sour beers will be available year-round.

A grand opening for the Sterling location is planned for early 2017.
