USA, HI: Waikiki Brewing Co. opening its second location in Honolulu

Waikiki Brewing Co., headed by the former general manager of Cheeseburger Restaurants, is opening its second location in the former Fresh Cafe space on Queen Street in the Honolulu neighborhood of Kakaako, the broker who did the deal confirmed to Pacific Business News on September 9.

Waikiki Brewing plans to open its all-encompassing 6,000-square-foot facility that includes a brewery, canning operation and tasting room in March at 831 Queen St.

Joe Lorenzen, former GM of Cheeseburger Restaurants, is the brewmaster of the new facility. Laren Gartner and Edna Bayliff, founders of Cheeseburger Restaurants, gave Lorenzen the opportunity to pursue training with the American Brewers Guild. Robert Kaskie, executive vice president of Cheeseburger Restaurants, was also instrumental in getting Waikiki Brewing up and running.

Waikiki Brewing’s first location, a 1,100-square-foot spot at the Cheeseburger Waikiki restaurant at 1945 Kalakaua Ave. at the corner of Ala Moana Boulevard, opened last year.

Its new brewpub will also serve a wide variety of handcrafted beers and food.
