Latvia: Uzavas Alus brewery to increase production capacity by a third next year
Uzavas Alus brewery based in the Ventspils municipality in north-western Latvia (formerly Zaksi) next year will increase its production capacity by one third, the company's owner Uldis Pumpurs told LETA.
He said that Uzavas Alus this year has started selling its beer in Finland where it is available in Stockmann stores and has already won interest of consumers.
At the end of October the company plans to send its first shipments to Germany, where the beer will be sold in Gunars Kirsons' restaurants Kirsons. "If we manage to develop in the Finnish market, then next year Uzavas Alus will expand and increase production by one third," said Pumpurs, adding that in the future also other export perspectives may open, for example, to Russia.
Pumpurs said that the company next year plans to purchase new equipment in order to increase its capacity. Pumpurs did not disclose the planned investments, but said that the EU funding will also be attracted to the project.
Last year Uzavas Alus generated EUR 3.195 mln in sales, up 2.9% y-o-y, and posted EUR 238,940 in loss in contrast to a profit a year ago.
The company was founded in 1995 and its share capital is EUR 298,802. The company's sole owner is Uldis Pumpurs.
