Canada, AB: Blind Enthusiasm Brewing plans to open two brewing facilities in Edmonton
An ambitious new brewery project has announced plans to open two distinct brewing facilities in Edmonton’s Ritchie neighbourhood in early 2017, Canadian Beer News reported on November 23.
Blind Enthusiasm Brewing is being spearheaded by Greg Zeschuk, a co-founder of video game developer BioWare who has also served as host of online beer & travel show The Beer Diaries, and as Executive Director of the Alberta Small Brewers Association.
As noted above, the Blind Enthusiasm brand will encompass two different brewery locations in Edmonton. The first will be a brewpub that will feature “an international-themed restaurant and a broad beer program featuring classic styles mixed with delicious experiments,” and the second will be a production brewery several blocks away that will “hold hundreds of barrels, feature a coolship for spontaneous fermentation, and contain a brewhouse specially designed for sour and farmhouse-style beers.”
Head brewers have been hired for both facilities, with Rob Monk (previously at Yukon Brewing and Spinnakers Brewpub) set to oversee the brewpub location, while Doug Checknita (previously at Brew Brothers and Le Trou du Diable, plus stints at Cantillon & La Brasserie De La Senne this summer) will be running things at the barrelhouse.
Both facilities are expected to open in early 2017, with distribution planned to “initially focus on local markets until consistency has reached a level that its beer merits being shared with folks around the world.”
