USA, MI: Eastern Market Brewing Co. gets a grant helping it to open this spring
A Motor City Match grant announced on January 9 closes the gap to help Eastern Market Brewing Co. open this spring, co-owner Dave Keyte said in an interview to the Detroit Free Press.
The $40,000 grant will help get the taproom built at the brewery's two-story, 5,200-square-foot brick building, built in 1929 on Riopelle between Winder and Adelaide. Renovations under way since last year are moving forward, with demolition complete, and they're aiming for a mid-April opening.
"Things are going great," said Keyte, 30, of Kalamazoo, adding that the money will help with putting in the bar, tables and seating. "We're using local manufacturers for all the furniture and tables."
"It's huge to be recognized and supported by the Detroit Economic Growth (Corporation)," Keyte said. "We're bullish on Detroit, and we're bullish on America."
The other co-owners include Dayne Bartscht, Paul Hoskin, Devin Drowley and Brad Silverman, who all attended Northwestern University in Chicago together.
