USA, TX: Great Heights Brewing Company joining Houston’s craft beer scene
Space City's craft beer scene will be getting even larger this August with the opening of Great Heights Brewing Company, Chron.com reported on May 17.
The upcoming brewery and tap room will open in Oak Forest, a location co-founder Sean Bednarz said is rapidly turning into a great beer scene.
"Houston has been fortunate to have Saint Arnold for the last twenty three years, but the broader beer scene is really just now coming of age," said Bednarz. "This is mostly due to legislative changes in 2013 that have allowed breweries to sell beer directly to customers in their taprooms."
Bednarz mentioned Brash Brewing and Eureka Heights Brewing Company as two examples of great, new breweries that have recently opened thanks to the brewery-to-customer legislation.
As for Bednarz's own brewery, the University of Texas at Austin alumnus said his goals for the destination are to be neighborhood taproom.
"We've built out a comfortable air-conditioned taproom that accommodates seventy five people and we plan to add a patio in the near future," Bednarz said. "There will be a variety of taproom-only offerings that will rotate throughout the year to keep things interesting for our patrons."
"That said, our 15-barrel brewhouse provides plenty of capacity for distribution," Bednarz added. "Fortunately there are many great restaurants and bars nearby and we're excited about seeing our taps in places we've frequented for years."
