USA, WA: Western Red Brewing opens in Poulsbo
A craft beer brewery with a timber theme opened on August 31 in Poulsbo, Kitsap Sun reported on September 1.
Western Red Brewing, at 19168 Jensen Way, had been in planning for a number of years and under construction since last fall.
"It feels fantastic, it’s very exciting," co-owner Marianna Smyth said of the opening. "It’s been several years of building and planning and hard work, and it finally paid off. Now the fun can begin."
Western Red features a 1,500-square-foot, family-friendly tasting room serving up beers made in-house along with a selection of guest taps. Smyth said the opening lineup includes a kolsch, red, IPA and porter.
Cider and bottled sodas also are available, as are snacks from Crimson Cove, Mt. Townsend Creamery and CB's Nuts.
Tasting room hours are noon to 8 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and noon to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
The Smyths, who also own a lumber company, outfitted Western Red with a 15-barrel brewing system, making it one of the county's largest in terms of production capacity. They plan to grow their business gradually and may provide contract brewing services for other craft brewers.
Western Red is the fifth brewery to open in Poulsbo, joining Rainy Daze, Slippery Pig, Sound and Valholl.
