USA, AK: QUAKE! Brewing Company only a few days away from opening in Wasilla
Back in 2014, Danyelle Kimp brewed his first batch of beer at home, today, he's only a few days away from opening Alaska's newest brewery in Wasilla, KTUU.com reported on September 3.
"The first few batches, absolutely terrible, undrinkable," said Kimp, Founder, QUAKE! Brewing Company. "But I kept at it, which is the story of my life. Eventually they started tasting pretty dadgum good."
Kimp reluctantly came to Alaska in 2013, serving in the 501st Airborne Infantry Regiment. He says it didn't take long for him and his family to fall in love with Alaska, later retiring at Fort Richardson, and making Alaska their home. Throughout his nearly 18 year career in the Army, Kimp served as an adjutant general and played trumpet in the band.
"I've been a musician, producer and composer for many years, but it was economically difficult to get into music," Kimp said. "I found that I could still be creative making beer, and it sort of translated from my music."
Currently QUAKE! plans to offer several rotating craft beers only available at the brewery, with four flagship beers, including Good Friday IPA, Magnitude Stout, Fracture Sweet Potato Ale and Avalanche Pale Ale, which will be sold statewide.
To start, Kimp plans to produce about 20-barrels of beer each month, with plenty of room to grow.
"We'll be trying to push the boundaries of not just what kind of beer it is, but how you make it too," said Kimp.
QUAKE! Brewing Company is planning to host a grand opening and ribbon cutting Friday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m.
