USA, FL: Perfect Plain Brewing Co. close to opening in Pensacola
After more than two years of planning, permits and construction, the owners of Perfect Plain Brewing Co. are close to being able to sit back and enjoy a cold one, the Pensacola News Journal reported on October 2.
D.C. Reeves, co-owner of the new brewery at 50 E. Garden St., said if there are no delays, the company is on target to open its doors in November.
"Our goal is to have a soft opening by Nov. 15 and to have a grand opening on Nov. 21," Reeves said to the News Journal on September 29.
Perfect Plain Brewing is a collaboration between Reeves and two native-Florida brewers, Brett Schweigert and Reed Odeneal, who honed their hop-steeping skills in the craft beer mecca of Asheville, North Carolina, before returning home to the Sunshine State.
Odeneal, who is from Tallahassee, worked with Schweigert, a Pensacola native, in Asheville when they got the call from Reeves two years ago to come back to Florida and open Perfect Plain Brewing.
The company hosted a private taste testing at the new Cowork Annex on October 2 to unveil their new beers.
"We're going to have approachable beer that's welcoming in a hot climate, but we're also going to push the envelope," Reeves said. "We're also going to do things that maybe haven't been done here that you see in these bigger beer cities."
Schweigert said one of the things they will bring from Asheville is sourcing ingredients for the beer locally.
"Working with local farmers and incorporating local agriculture to create a uniquely local and distinctly Florida product," Schweigert said.
The public areas and the brewery will be in the same space with only a metal railing separating the public from the equipment, which arrived last week.
"It took us a long time to find a location in Pensacola," Odeneal said. "Just me being involved in this project and getting to know Pensacola in the last two years, it's grown so much. It's exciting to be downtown. I can't imagine us being anywhere else."
