USA, VA: Smartmouth Brewing Company to open new location on December 16
A Norfolk, VA-based craft brewery will open the doors to its newest location at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront this weekend, the Southside Daily reported on December 11.
Smartmouth Brewing Company’s newest venture, Pilot House, will officially open on Saturday, December 16 at 313 32nd Street.
The 10-barrel brewing system is located inside of a renovated, 1958-era U.S. Post Office, complete with an 8,000-square-foot tasting room and private event space, according to a Virginia Beach news release.
Pilot House will brew between 600 and 800 barrels of craft beer each year. The new location will feature old favorites already brewed at the Norfolk location, such as the Alter Ego Saison and Murphy’s Law Amber Ale.
Those looking to experiment can try Pilot House original brews like Crooked Cane Candy Cane Stout, First! IPA, and Rubidus Nox cherry stout, the release states.
“Pilot House is a tribute to the local waterfront and aviation community as well as the location’s core function of producing experimental and creative beers,” company president Porter Hardy wrote in a news release.
Announced in December 2016, the Virginia Beach Development Authority gave the brewery a $20,000 economic development investment program grant to help fund construction.
“The Virginia Beach craft beer community is growing significantly,” Business Development Coordinator Michelle Chapleau wrote in a news release. “It is a collaborative community, and it not only attracted visitors to the city but also is a strong point of pride for locals.”
