Russia: Russian farmers to increase spring barley plantings this year
According to preliminary information of the regional agricultural authorities in Russia, the nation’s 2018 grain plantings will total 80.4 mln ha, which is up 187.4 thousand ha from 2017 (80.2 mln ha), UkrAgroConsult reported on February 6.
It is projected to seed 53.4 mln ha to spring crops (100.1% of last year’s 53.3 mln ha). Growers are going to sow spring cereals and pulses on 31 mln ha, which is 99.6% of last year’s 31.2 mln ha.
Farmers are expected to increase plantings of spring barley by 102.3 thousand ha (to 7637 thousand ha), pulses by 147.6 thousand ha (to 2396.9 thousand ha) and millet acreage by 21.2 thousand ha (to 289.3 thousand ha), it is reported.
As a reminder, Russian winter cereal plantings for the 2018 harvest totalled 17.1 mln ha (17.4 mln ha in 2017). According to the agricultural authorities in Russia’s regions, 94.8% of them are in good and fair condition.
