Ukraine: Barley exports in May increase to 73.9 thousand tonnes from 12.6 thousand in April
Barley exports from Ukraine grew to 73.9 thousand tonnes in May 2017/18 against 12.6 thousand tonnes in the previous month. At the same time, this is 36% less than in May 2017 (115.4 thousand tonnes), UkrAgroConsult reported.
In July-May 2017/18, Ukrainian barley exports decreased 20% to 4.2 mln tonnes against 5.2 mln tonnes in the same period last season. Noteworthy, wheat exports declined to 16.3 mln tonnes or 3% less than in the same period in MY 2016/17.
In the period under review, a significant rise was observed in barley shipments to China: 789.4 thousand tonnes versus 300.5 thousand tonnes a year ago. Simultaneously, Ukraine boosted barley exports to the EU and Turkey by 31% and 32%, respectively.
At the same time, a drop happened in barley supplies to key markets such as Saudi Arabia (down 21% at 1.8 mln tonnes) and Libya (down 71% at 269.3 thousand tonnes).
At the same time, according to the State Statistics Service, barley inventories dwindled by 14.6% from a year ago, to a bit more than 709.3 thousand tonnes against 830.6 thousand tonnes in June 2017, UkrAgroConsult’s analysts note.
