USA, MN: Gull Dam Brewery closing its doors by year-end
A Brainerd Lakes area brewery is closing its doors at the end of the year, Bring Me The News reported on November 27.
The owners of Gull Dam Brewery, Mark and Barb Anderson, announced on Facebook on November 26 that they're planning to retire following their final day in business on New Year's Eve.
“This was a fun venture, our beer is world class and Mark and I have met so many wonderful people at the brewery,” said Barb Anderson.
Whether a new owner takes over the brewery or a new business enters the venue, which includes a taproom and event center along with outdoor seating and a stage for live music, is unknown, but the Andersons say they're selling the business.
The brewery is known for its "I need a Gull Dam beer!" slogan, in spirit of the historic dam on Gull Lake, which is just a stone's throw away.
The brewery is also known for its minority shareholder, actor Kevin Sorbo, who needed a Gull Dam beer during Sunday's Vikings game.
According to The Growler, Gull Dam Brewing was the second brewery to open in the Brainerd Lakes area, which has since added Roundhouse Brewing in Brainerd, Big Axe Brewing in Nisswa, Cuyuna Brewing in Crosby and 14 Lakes Craft Brewery in Crosslake.
The Growler notes that six Minnesota breweries have announced closures this year, including Great Waters Brewing in St. Paul, which served its last beer on Nov. 18.
The Andersons have plans to throw a massive kegger as a retirement part on Saturday, Dec. 29 from 4-7 p.m.
