USA, CT: Skygazer Brewing Co. near to opening in Southington
Brewery news

Southington’s third brewery is nearer to opening with the completion of its building on Triano Drive, the Meridien Record-Journal reported on December 8.

Skygazer Brewing Co. its tanks and other equipment in place at its location in an industrial park off Lazy Lane.

“Everything’s in there. It’s just a matter now of putting the final touches on and getting a certificate of occupancy for the town,” said building owner Andy Meade.

Brewery owners Taylor Pilewski, of Wallingford, and Erik Tynik, of Bristol, have said they’ll focus on brewing and have a small tasting area rather than attempt the brew pub business model. With a new building, Pilewski was able to include all the necessary infrastructure needed for a brewery from the start, rather than retrofit an older building.

The owners could not be reached for comment for this story.

Skygazer will offer four packs of their craft beer to go, according to the company’s website.

The 6,000-square-foot industrial space is also home to John Meade’s landscaping business. He owns the building with his father, Andy Meade. Another unit is occupied by Packt House, a clothing design, video and music production company that signed a lease this week.

Andy Meade said there’s one more unit that’s been under consideration by Skygazer for possible expansion.

“He’s looked at it a couple times, too,” Andy Meade said. “That would open up another place for him.”

Skygazer will be the third brewery in town.

Witchdoctor Brewing Co. opened at 168 Center St. last year, while Kinsmen Brewing Co. is open in the former Clark Brothers Bolt factory building at 409 Canal St.

Scott Paradis, the builder of the new brewery, said they had to remove 11 feet of soil from the site, which delayed construction.

Paradis, with M & P Developers, said Skygazer’s unit is equipped with floor drains and the necessary plumbing for fermenters. The brewery was involved in the design of the building to suit their needs.

“They were on board since day one,” Paradis said. “Their unit was built just for them.”
