USA, VA: WildManDan Beercentric Bed and Breakfast becomes licensed brewery
The WildManDan Beercentric Bed and Breakfast in Afton has been open for several years, but it's officially become a licensed brewery within the last few months, CBS19 News reported on May 14.
Dan Tatarka, also known as WildManDan, has been an avid home brewer and beer judge over the years.
Since opening, members of the bed and breakfast were able to share their beer with people staying there but were unable to allow for sales of their products.
All that has changed in the last few months. WildManDan has received its licensing to become an official Virginia brewery.
This means it can now sell its beer to customers at its tasting room next to the main house as well as sell beer to go in growlers.
The bed and breakfast itself is a way for people to unwind and meet interesting people while drinking freshly made craft beer after enjoying a day of hiking or visiting other drinking destinations.
A beer and a hug is the first thing you experience within just minutes of arriving at the property.
"We have a couple beers on tap that is part of staying at the bed and breakfast," said Terri Tatarka, one of the owners.
There are five bedrooms within the main house along with two bedrooms in a separate cottage just steps away.
The brewery and tasting room has even more beers on tap.
WildManDan is one of, if not the only, beer-centric bed and breakfast in Virginia. It is also the smallest production brewery in the Commonwealth.
"That wasn't planned. It's a homebrew system. Kind of outgrown homebrew a little bit so it's transitioning," said Dan.
Since receiving the proper paperwork, Dan and his fellow brewers have begun to make more beer for people staying on the property and for distribution to local bars.
Despite wanting to grow and have its beers found at bars, WildManDan Brewing still wants to remain small and keep it local.
Right now, the tasting room is only open to the public during the week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
At the moment, the tasting room is only available on the weekends to guests staying in the house or cottage.
There also beer classes and group brewing classes available.
