USA, GA: Biggerstaff Brewing Company eyes early next year opening
Brewery news

A new brewery is coming to Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward, with a menu from a James Beard Award-nominated chef, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported on June 25.

Asana Partners and SRS Real Estate Partners announced that Clay and Sarah Davies will open Biggerstaff Brewing Company early next year at 521 Edgewood Ave. The 5,800 square-foot brewery will be down the block from Staplehouse, the much-lauded restaurant where Ryan Smith serves as the executive chef.

Smith will design Biggerstaff’s menu, which will feature house-made charcuterie, small plates, sandwiches, salads and snacks, all designed to pair with the brewery’s beers.

“We’re ecstatic to have Chef Ryan Smith bring his craft and vision to our menu,” Clay Davies said of the partnership in a prepared statement. “He has done an amazing job with Staplehouse. We can’t wait for our customers to experience our craft beers with his award-winning food.”

The beer lineup will focus on IPAs but will also feature sours, coffee beers and other offerings such as a smoked pale ale. In addition, Biggerstaff plans to open in the mornings to serve Intelligentsia coffee and espresso along with locally-made pastries. Cole Davies, who previously worked at local coffee shops Octane (now Revelator), Spiller Park and Steady Hand Pourhouse will head up the coffee program.

Longtime residents of the area, the Davies have been brewing for more than a decade. John Roberts, a partner in Brewed to Serve Restaurant Group, Inc., which is behind concepts including Max Lager’s Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery and the forthcoming The Bold Monk, is acting as the brewery consultant for the project.

In addition to Biggerstaff’s location, Asana Partners also owns 476 Edgewood Ave., which is home to Edgewood Pizza. The pizzeria will expand into the adjacent space later this year to open “neighborhood watering hole” Handlebar.

Asana recently closed on 560 Edgewood Ave., a two-story 50,000 square foot building of retail and loft office space. SRS is currently marketing the building to entertainment and restaurant concepts.
