USA, TX: Auld Brewing Company to become Borger’s first nano brewery
More than 4,200 breweries have opened across the country over the last five years.
Two years ago, a record number of breweries opened in the United States, but the number of closures also rose to 70 percent, according to a report from an industry trade group.
For the first time in Borger’s history, a nano brewery will soon open its doors, abc7amarillo.com reported on July 6.
“We decided to find a small community to put in a nano brewery,” said Andrea Auld, co-founder of Auld Brewing Company.
“We kind of tested the waters in a lot of places and we like that there was more of a drive to get a brewery put in Borger,” said Raymond Auld, co-founder of Auld Brewing Company.
There are more than 250 breweries open in Texas. That number is up from 59 in 2011. The nano brewery will sit inside a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone. This has the potential to bring the City of Borger a big economic boost.
“We had to make some changes to the zoning because our zoning was so old,” said Karen Felker, Mayor pro tem. “The old zoning didn’t even address where a brewery or a gunsmith for that matter could open, so we addressed it at the same time.”
“These are staples of a lot of towns, good breweries bring in good revenue for the town,” said Auld. “They monopolize downtown centers.”
The Auld Brewing Company is part of Borger’s commercial building improvement program, which allows business owners to turn vacant properties into new operating businesses. Andrea Auld told ABC 7 News the plan is to train staff at its Borger location before sending them to a larger brewery in Lubbock that will also open soon.
“They’ll be able to brew alongside with Ray and learn the recipes on a smaller scale, which is a dime saver,” said Auld. “We don’t want to lose gallons of beer. They’ll learn those recipes and transfer them to the Lubbock facility.
The grand opening for the nano brewery in Borger is scheduled for Aug. 23, 2019.
