USA, MN: Back Shed Brewing opens its doors in Waite Park
Back Shed Brewing has opened its doors (the front ones) in Waite Park, MN, SC Times reported on August 25.
The new Waite Park brewery had its first official day Saturday, August 21, complete with live music and a food truck.
On tap to start were six beers (two blonde ales, an IPA, an American Porter and two sours) and two seltzers.
The patio is not complete, but the beer is.
"We figured as long as the beer is ready, we might as well let people come in and enjoy it," Jason Schlecht said. He started the brewery with his brother, Scott Schlecht.
The brewery has 16 taps on either side of the shed (built inside Back Shed Brewing and surrounded by a bar), which means their goal is to eventually get to 16 different brews on tap, Schlecht said.
Experimentation with small batches in a 15-gallon pilot system will start right away. If these brews are popular, they could be served more regularly.
As of Wednesday, August 26 the brewery's website listed these beers as available at Back Shed Brewing:
Blonde, James Blonde — blonde ale
Cranky Man — cranberry/mango blonde ale
Stompin' Daisies — IPA
Double Cross — American Porter
Head brewer Chris Simonson said the blonde ale is pretty approachable for those who lean toward a traditional lager-type beer, and the porter is "soft" with a low alcohol content.
He's particularly excited for customers to try the Cranky Man.
"I think the cranberry mango is one that's kind of unique," Simonson said. (He was working on this beer in the pilot system back in May, as the team was still in prep mode.)
The brewery is open from 3 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, from noon to 10 p.m. on Friday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. Sundays.
