USA, SC: Bevi Bene Brewing Co. set to open in winter 2022
The former head brewer of Asheville’s Wedge Brewing Co. and his wife will open a new brewery specializing in lagers and hard kombucha at the 60,000-square-foot Lumberyard development, located just off King Street Extension at 1834-1859 Summerville Ave. Set to open in winter 2022, Bevi Bene Brewing Co. will offer around eight different rotating brews and three-to-four hard kombuchas, owners Clay and Marissa Carlisle told the City Paper.
“Both head brewers that I worked with were really good at making lagers, so that’s going to be our main focus at Bevi Bene,” said Clay, adding that former Wedge employee Ian Leightner will join the couple as head brewer.
After pandemic-caused delays, construction started in August. The brewery will feature an outdoor patio, ample parking and space for food trucks, which will be on-site weekly.
The Lumberyard, which is being developed by RCB Development and designed by Charleston architect David Thompson, continues to slowly add tenants, including event venue The Arbor Room and Lowcountry Local First’s Local Works coworking space. Bevi Bene will occupy 5,670 square feet at the new development.
“This was always kind of a dream of ours,” said Marissa, who will run the front-of-house. “It seems like the brewery community here is really close, and there’s just a lot of awesome breweries that we’re excited to be a part of. We’re hoping to just add to that.”
