USA, AL: The Brewers Cooperative is set to open its two locations this fall
After facing several construction-related delays to the COVID-19 pandemic, the long-awaited brewpub collaboration The Brewers Cooperative is set to open this fall, AL.com reported on November 4.
First announced in 2019 as the Southern Brewers Cooperative Brewpub, The Brewers Cooperative is a joint project from Huntsville’s Straight to Ale brewery and Birmingham’s Good People Brewing Co. The concept is a massive brewing facility that will make beer, spirits, and wine for onsite consumption. The joint cooperative will also feature beers from Avondale Brewery in Birmingham, as well as Salty Nut Brewery and Druid City in Huntsville.
The Cooperative will be opening two locations this year, the first in Huntsville at Stovehouse and the second in Guntersville at City Harbor.
In a press release, organizers billed The Brewers Cooperative as “a first for our region.”
“The cooperative will be a leader in collaboration for our craft,” said Dan Perry, the owner of Straight to Ale brewery, in the release. “Along with the five breweries featured, we are planning to invite other Alabama-based breweries to collaborate on different featured brews.”
“We aren’t looking for individual recognition for accomplishments,” said Perry. “We are building a unique sustainable partnership of like-minded craft artisans coming together for the promotion of craft beer, wine, spirits, and food.”
The brewing cooperative was started with the idea of “better serving the community through the spirit of collaboration,” according to the press release. The Brewers Cooperative organizers plan to use the massive brewpub operation to host tasting panels, beer design forums, and beer education events. A goal of the brewpub, says organizers, is to support a community of local makers.
Huntsville-based creative firm Bold Agency led the cooperative’s interior design and will also lead the project’s additional marketing efforts.
“The interior of each space will be completely different than what you’d expect,” said Lauren Gowins, the owner of the Bold Agency, in the press release.
“Instead of expecting to see multiple logos or brewery brands, the space will be ‘unbranded’ and will feature modern elements throughout the designs,” said Gowins.
The brewing project plans to offer a tiered membership program featuring exclusive discounts, events, and the opportunity to brew beer with the Cooperative. Members of The Brewers Cooperative will also have the opportunity to be involved in setting the long-term goals and policies of the co-op. Once the brewing operations are up and running, co-op members will be able to be a part of the brewing process and work with other breweries on site to collaborate on small batch projects. Anyone over the age of 21 can become a member.
“Learning about what goes into the brewing process gives you a deeper appreciation for craft beer and how it cultivates a culture of supporting ‘locally made’ in your community,” said Michael Sellers , the owner of Good People Brewing Co.
The Brewers Cooperative locations will feature a selection of beer, spirits, and wine. The Huntsville and Guntersville brewpubs will feature different menus.
