USA, PA: High Road Brewing Company to open in Camp Hill by summer 2022
Matt Flinchbaugh isn’t slowing down, the Penn Live reported on November 18.
The owner of Flinchy’s in Lower Allen Township and Home Slice at Walden in Silver Spring Township is pursuing his next project, High Road Brewing Company in Camp Hill.
By summer 2022, the brewhouse will open at 1801 Market St. in a building owned by Smith Land & Improvement Corporation in Camp Hill. High Road joins other retailers at the complex including One Good Woman, Little Black Dress and Plum Bottom shoes.
“I just felt it was a fit for Camp Hill. It has been proven now that breweries and small local places are not a fad. It’s not going anywhere,” Flinchbaugh said.
High Road will be the first in Camp Hill to manufacture beer since residents voted in 2017 to reverse the town’s dry status. Although, Watershed Pub opened in 2020 in the borough and serves beer from owner Josh Kesler’s Millworks restaurant in Harrisburg.
Before High Road officially opens, Flinchbaugh will open High Road Taproom on Nov. 24 at 146 Walden Way in Charter Homes & Neighborhoods’ Walden community in Silver Spring Township. It replaces Harty Brewing Co., which closed two years ago.
For the 30-seat taproom, Flinchbaugh is taking advantage of a bill recently signed by Gov. Tom Wolf that extends liquor licensing flexibility through unlimited off-premise catering permits.
“It gives us a whole other bar. It’s basically a way to increase revenue at a time when we’re not hitting our numbers like we used to,” he said.
The taproom will feature foods from Flinchy’s and Home Slice and nearby Sophia’s at Walden, as well as Pennsylvania craft beers, wines and spirits.
Next year, the Camp Hill project will fall into place as equipment such as fermentation tanks are delivered. The brewery will be family-friendly and include a three-tier deck off the front of the building with an outdoor bar.
“The whole front side of Market Street is going to have garage doors, so you can sit indoors and outdoors,” Flinchbaugh said.
The menu will mesh small plates and shareable foods made from Pennsylvania sourced “PA Preferred” ingredients, along with menu favorites from Flinchy’s and Home Slice.
Flinchbaugh said it was important the brewery’s name be meaningful.
“Maybe it will help people come together and start taking the high road,” he said. “We’ll have some fun with the theme.”
The taproom will operate 4-11 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, noon-11 p.m. Saturday and noon-9 p.m. Sunday.
