USA, OR: Standing Stone Brewing Company to close down after a tough couple of years
Over the past 26 years, Standing Stone Brewing Company (SSBC) in Ashland has given to its community through beers, eats and even donations, KTVL reported on May 12.
SSBC announced on May 11 that it will be closing its doors after a tough couple of years battling intense smoke from fires and the pandemic. The brewery leaves behind decades of community impact and some sad customers.
The company has raised thousands of dollars for local nonprofits through its Pints for a Purpose Program, raised $6000 for World Central Kitchen providing meals to Ukraine refugees, and raised $35000 for Rogue Valley Farm to School.
“They’ve constantly been a bastion of this community and always given from their profits to various causes so it’s sad because that income now will also be lost,” said Dutch Weiss, an SSBC customer of 15 years.
Many customers were shocked to hear the company is shutting down and will miss the food, drinks and environment.
“It’s the kind of place where you eat here and you feel good,” said Steve Sanfilippo, an SSBC customer of over 20 years. “It’s good food and I always liked the beer too.”
Steve Sanfilippo and his wife Teresa have been coming to Standing Stone for more than twenty years all the way from Yreka and said the beer and eats have kept them coming back.
“We’re going to be very, very sad that they’re not going to be here,” said Teresa Sanfilippo. “Every time we’re in Ashland, we come here. It’s just our go-to place.”
While it is unclear what will be replacing Standing Stone, customers have a few hopes of their own for the company and building space.
“Hopefully they can either resurrect and come back or maybe another brewery might come in,” Weiss said.
“I hope somebody buys it and keeps it going the way it was with the local food and good beer,” Teresa expressed.
From thousands of dollars in donations to countless loyal customers, the brewery will leave an impact on the community even after its doors are closed.
The brewery will permanently close on Sunday, May 29th and will be offering $3 pints that day: the same price the asked on the day they opened, in true Standing Stone spirit.
