USA, OH: Guernsey Brewhouse to open in Cambridge in mid-July
Trail Ale is one of many craft ales and India pale ales (IPAs) that will be named after Guernsey County attractions at the Guernsey Brewhouse in Cambridge.
The family-owned business operated by Shawn Long, his wife Aimee, and their three sons Zack, Spencer and Parker, will open in mid-July at 4550 Bloomfield Road. It will be the 400th brewery to open in Ohio, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
Shawn said there would be something for everybody. The menu will consist of craft ales and lagers, wheat beers, a red raspberry sour, several IPAs, stouts and porters along with seasonal drinks and others.
Zach will be taking care of security and IT while Spencer will help as an extra employee in the taproom. Parker is apprenticing with his father in brewing.
According to Aimee, this is also Parker's dream and he would probably be the one running the brewery in the future. "They are all excited. They all love craft beer," she said.
Shawn started brewing as a hobby 17 years ago.
"It escalated from there and I started learning more techniques on brewing and fell in love with it," said Shawn, who also previously worked for another local brewery.
The idea to open the brewery came from a conversation the couple had two years ago, in which Aimee told Shawn she would help run the taproom and they would make it a family business.
The idea to name the craft brews after local attractions comes from the couple's shared loved for Guernsey County and a desire to highlight what it has to offer.
A lot of people will search out breweries and make at day of it, Aimee said. So the couple thought maybe people will come to the Guernsey County Brewhouse have a beer and see information on the attractions throughout the county and go see them.
While they are still working on naming the brews, Shawn thinks there will a drink named after Morgan's Raid, and hopefully one for Hop-Along-Cassidy, as well as a Salt Fork sour and a drink named after Bigfoot. Shawn is also considering a Birmingham Blonde and a Christmas ale to go with the Dickens Victorian Village.
Shawn plans display customers' photos of them hiking, camping or taking part in other activities at the Great Guernsey Trail and Salt Fork State Park. The photos will be rotated every couple of weeks. The purpose is to keep people interested in going to local attractions.
Longs will not be serving food at this time, but hope to have food trucks on-site during hours of operations. The Brewhouse will be open noon to 10 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays.
