USA, KY: Owensboro’s Pub on Second nearly ready to begin brewing its own beer
Brewery news

Owensboro’s Pub on Second is nearly ready to begin brewing its own beer, making it the second active brewery in Daviess County, The Owensboro Times reported on December 17.

Bill Brown co-owns the establishment with John Condray and said patrons constantly asked the two if they would ever brew their own beer. Brown said the answer was always no, but the thought was constantly brewing in the back of their minds.

“We knew the opportunity would have to be perfect, and we saw this as an excellent opportunity to invest in ourselves and The Pub,” Brown said. “We knew we needed to find the right brewer out of the gate.”

Enter Matt Watson, long-time assistant brewer at Henderson Brewery and expert in the field.

The team looks for the brewery addition to enhance Owensboro and downtown’s already vibrant tourism industry.

“Being a brewery certainly helps our business and creates opportunities for local hotels and tourism,” Brown said. “When a town has more than one brewery, it gives people in other cities and craft beer lovers in our region a chance to venture from brewery to brewery and create an evening out of it.”

The goal is for the brewery to secure its own location in an already-established restaurant.

“Our goal is to create growth and familiarize people with how good the beers are,” he said. “From there, we want to roll the brewery to a different site and partner with a restaurant in a larger space.”

Brown said the Pub has its market and niche, which they never want to forgo. Becoming a brewery simply opens new doors for the team.

The Pub currently boasts 28 craft beers on draft, with plans to dedicate four taps to its in-house brewing. They intend to offer all major styles on a rotating and seasonal basis.

“We want to brew small amounts and continually rotate and change our options,” he said. “We want to determine what people enjoy the most and cater to what our consumers want.”
