USA, CA: California Wild Ales opening multi-faceted production facility in San Diego
Brewery news

California Wild Ales, which has an Ocean Beach tasting room, is opening a new multi-faceted production facility and tasting room in San Diego’s Midway District on Sept. 15 at 3826 Sherman St., SDNews.com reported on September 8.

Promoted as San Diego’s “Sour House,” co-owner Zack Brager talked about the centerpiece of California Wild Ales’ new brewing facility. “We have created an inviting and exciting space, one of the main features of which is an 18-foot by 10.5-foot movie screen,” he said. “This has got to be one of the largest screens outside of Petco Park. We will be showing live sporting events (Gulls, Padres, NFL games, etc.) as well as live-streaming concerts similar to how we do at our OB location.”

Added Brager: “This screen is massive, and I think once people see it, the screen will become a major draw for this location, which will have a bigger focus on events. The space will allow us to be really creative. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

This October, for example, Brager said California Wild Ales plans to run horror movies, and even host a podcast from one of its industry colleagues, Kelly Cashman. “Her horror movie podcast, ‘B Movie And A Beer,’ will do a live episode projected onto our giant screen,” said Brager adding, “Get ready for a cinematic roller coaster, as we dive headfirst into the zany world of B-Movies, beer in hand.”

Concerning days and hours at Sherman Street, Brager noted, “We are taking things slowly as we try to familiarize ourselves with the new neighborhood. We want to get a good understanding of the area before diving into anything too quickly. For now, we are thinking Wednesday-Sunday, noon-8 p.m. Concerts and sporting events at Pechanga Arena will heavily influence our hours of operation. We aim to be the preferred location for pre-event drinks.”

Brager said they will host Lego Races at their new facility, where “You will build your car and race it on the same day.” He said they’ll also team up with their friend Khoury from Mortarless Bricks to “create some really cool Lego 3D sculptures for our space. We’ve recycled some of our old styles of reclaimed wood and mirrors through the space, and incorporated them in fun and new ways.”

There will also be a small section at California Wild Ales on Sherman for an arcade, starting off with a four-player retro arcade cabinet. “This is one arcade with unlimited retro fun,” said Brager noting, “We plan on adding another three machines over the next few months. And to make things even better, we will still have all the fun bar-top games that we made famous at our OB location – Ring-toss, Landslide, Roller Bowler, Rolo, Washers, and more.”

California Wild Ales has also teamed with The Last Typewriter to offer a full menu of delicious food. “We are proud to offer gourmet burgers and fries, fusion-fried chicken, toasted sandwiches, and more,” Brager said adding patrons will be able to order their food from their tasting room’s wall-mounted tablet, then have the restaurant deliver right to the tasting room.

“It’s going to be a fantastic place to catch live games, enjoy a craft beer, and soak up the atmosphere,” concluded Bill DeWitt, co-owner and founder of California Wild Ales.

“We’re enthusiastic about sharing our innovative brews and creating lasting memories for our patrons.” Monica DeWitt, the general manager noted adding, “We’ve created an inviting and exciting space that’s designed for both beer enthusiasts and those looking for a unique, community-oriented experience.”
