USA, ME: Gneiss Brewing Co. to shut its doors after 10 years in business
Gneiss Brewing Co. in Limerick will be shutting its doors after more than 10 years in business, the Bangor Daily News reported on March 28.
Gneiss brewed its first batch of Gneiss Weiss in September 2013.
“Over the last 10 years, IPAs have dominated draft lists at taprooms and bars alike. The focus of Gneiss in that time was to offer something for everyone and offer people a chance to taste something other than the ‘juice bombs’ or ‘hoppy hazy’ beers,” Gneiss Brewing Co. said.
Over the last four years, Gneiss Brewing has suffered the hardships COVID brought to the hospitality industry followed by supply-chain shortages, inflation and employment challenges, according to the company.
“We have also dealt with numerous health issues that have left us with little help to operate and grow at the rate we wished we could. For those reasons and more, we have decided that in the best interest of our family, we will be closing Gneiss,” Gneiss Brewing said.
Its last day of business is still in the air. Gneiss’ tasting room hours are 12-6 p.m. Saturdays.
Gneiss is pronounced “Nice.” The “G” is silent.
