EU: Grain imports in 2023-24 decline by 23%
From the beginning of the current season to March 27, the EU countries imported 25.0 million tonnes of grain, which is 23% less than in the same period last season, UkrAgroConsult reported on April 24.
As in the previous season, the EU imports soft wheat, barley and corn mainly from Ukraine. In the current season, Ukraine supplied 5.1 mln tonnes of soft wheat, or 70% of the total imports of this crop, 9.1 mln tonnes of corn (67%) and 0.7 mln tonnes (48%) of barley. The largest supplier of durum wheat is Turkey – 700.2 thousand tonnes (34%).
Russia is among the main suppliers of wheat, barley, rye and sorghum to the European Union. From the beginning of the current season to March 27, the EU imported from Russia 437.1 thousand tonnes of durum wheat, 318.7 thousand tonnes of soft wheat, 273.0 thousand tonnes of corn, 181.5 thousand tonnes of rye, 59.1 thousand tonnes of barley and 2.3 thousand tonnes of sorghum.
