USA, OR: Kyros Brewing Co. in Portland is for sale
Brewery news

A brewery and beer garden in the Portland neighborhood was put on the market earlier this week, The Business Journals reported on September 20.

Taylor Diaz, co-owner of Kyros Brewing Co. LLC, announced through a social media post on Tuesday, September 17 that Kyros, located at 2425 Portland Ave., is for sale. The brewery was opened in 2023 by three couples who began brewing together during the coronavirus pandemic: Diaz and his wife Sarah; Rich and Cameron Shanks; and Manooch and Jeana Saeedi.

The brewery's name was inspired by kairos, a Greek word that means "opportune moment." In his post, Diaz explained that two of Kyros's co-owners are leaving the country and the remaining partners are seeking a better work-life balance.

“A lot has changed in last few years. We are now parents to two growing boys and Manooch and Jeana are moving to Spain as we speak. It’s time (no pun intended) for Kyros to make a change as Sarah and I have neither the capacity or desire to run this business without the friends we started it with,” Diaz wrote. “This decision has been labored over painfully as the Saeedi’s departure approached and our conclusion is bittersweet: We will miss serving you in our taproom, watching Kyros’ community flourish, and the long conversations in our beer garden. We will also miss the constant connection with those in the industry who have been overwhelmingly supportive and kind to us in our journey. However, we look forward to a new, quiet season where our boys and family can be our main focus.”

In a recent interview with Louisville Business First, Diaz said he and his remaining partners plan to run the business through October. Diaz did not specify a sales price for the business. The sale includes a brewing system, a walk-in cooler, tap system, and licenses for on-premise beer consumption and retail space. Kyros also recently acquired a food permit.

“We’d love to have somebody carry the brand or at least have a spot there because it’s such a neat asset to the community,” Diaz added. “We have a big taproom in the front, a 10 beer tap, a nice bar, air conditioning, and a beer garden.”

The roots of Kyros go back to 2017, when Diaz and his wife Sarah moved to Louisville from Bowling Green, Kentucky. They reconnected with Manooch and Jeana Saeedi, who they knew in Bowling Green, and started to explore their mutual love for home brewing.

The two couples met Rich and Cameron Shank at church. All three couples became friends and when the pandemic started in 2020, the Shanks stayed in the Saeedi home in Portland while their own house was being renovated. To pass the time, everyone gathered on the back porch at night to sample their home brews.

In a short time, they decided to turn their hobby into a business venture. The owners invested more than $30,000 to open the brewery.

The partners originally opened Kyros just as a beer garden in the back of the Farm to Fork Catering space, but the brewery eventually took over the catering service's 2,000-square-foot space inside the building too. The business does not have any employees, but there are contractors who work as bartenders.

“We are hoping to find a buyer who will pick up the Kyros story and run with it or start their own story in our wonderful neighborhood,” Diaz said.
