USA, NE: Scott Free Brewing Company planned for downtown Gering
A new microbrewery is planned for one of downtown Gering’s historic buildings, Rural Radio Network reported on September 25.
The Gering City Council this week gave approval to a class I liquor license and a micro TIF grant application to Kristian and Krystal Schank for the Scott Free Brewing Company.
Krystal Schank told the council their plans include craft beers, craft sodas, kombucha and limited dining fare, with a focus on German-style brews. “We want to embrace the German heritage that is in this area, and That is my husband’s preference on it,” said Schank. “That’s one of the reasons we started looking at opening a craft beer brewery is, there’s not anywhere to get that traditional German beer on a regular basis. Places like Flyover (Brewing Company) have some options, but they rotate in and out.”
Schank said the Scottsbluff couple is planning on limited hours to start, from Thursday nights through Sunday afternoons, to get a feel for what the city wants from the business.
The new microbrewery will be opening at 1032 O Street on a date yet to be announced.
