USA: North Carolina’s new law increases the alcohol limit on beer

Until now, North Carolina was one of the 6 states which have limited beer to 6% alcohol. Now however the situation has changed. Mike Easley, North Carolina Gov. signed over last weekend a law which increases the alcohol limit on beer from 6% to 15%.

The law has generated an interest in beer that may attract customers. Brewers also say they're enjoying the chance to try new things and offer a greater selection.

Beer distributors are already lining up shipments of draft and bottled brews into the state.

Canada: Molson breaks ground on new Moncton brewery

Canada President and CEO Kevin Boyce, along with New Brunswick Premier Bernard Lord and Mayor Lorne Mitton, broke ground on August 16 on Molson's new Moncton brewery. The facility will provide Canada's leading brewer with a strong local connection and underscores Molson's commitment to growing in the Maritimes.

The ground-breaking ceremony coincided with the unveiling of the brewery plans, as well as a site sign that will mark its new home alongside the Trans- Canada Highway, just North of Moncton.

Land clearing on the Caledonia Industrial Estates plot began in late July, and is now completed. The construction of the new facility is currently on track to hit its target operational date of January 2007. The state of the art brewery will feature bottling and keg lines and have the flexibility to accommodate the possible installation of a canning line. Brewing capacity will be more than 6 million 12-packs annually or 250,000 hectolitres. Once fully operational, the facility will brew several of Molson's most popular core brands such as Molson Canadian and Coors Light for the regional market.

The arrival of Molson in New Brunswick is expected to create 40 jobs within three years of commencing ...

Indonesia: San Miguel revenues from Indonesia operations increase by 34%

San Miguel Corp.’s Indonesian subsidiary announced on August 17 that the company recorded a 34-percent growth in sales revenues in the first seven months of the year, as the company stepped up its sales and marketing efforts and enhanced its distribution network.

The company attributed growth to "aggressive sales and marketing activities, enhanced distribution network, expansion of trade coverage, deployment of merchandising materials, and various event sponsorships nationwide."

PT Delta reported a surge in sales of Anker Bir, its top-selling brand, following a promotional campaign that made inroads in critical areas held by its competitor.

Apart from Anker Bir, the San Miguel subsidiary also markets the Anker Stout, San Miguel, Carslberg, Kuda Putih, Sodaku and Sodaku Ice brands in Indonesia.

The company said its growth was also in line with Indonesia’s own economic expansion. Indonesia’s gross domestic product grew to 6.4 percent in the first quarter from 5.1 percent year-on-year.

The numbers from Indonesia helped San Miguel’s international operations post a five-fold increase ...
