1. Industry news
Heineken has recently filed a suit at the court in Luxebourg against
Quinsa, the Argentinean brewer which entered into an agreement with the
Brazilian AmBev, concerning the sale of its stake in Beverage Associates
(BAC) Corp.
Heineken has considered that affair illegal and wanted that the court
officially proclaim it as such and block the transaction on an interim
basis.
However, in spite of Heineken's testimony , on the 25th of June , the
court in Luxembourg has given a negative reply to this legal action .
Molson brewer from Canada has recently closed its head office from Rio de
Jaineiro saving in such a way R10mln. What is more, the brewer does not
intend to finish with closures and is going to close three of its
operations in Brazil .
This new move will engender a cutting of 220 jobs and will diminish the
brewer's annual costs by R20 mln.
The popularity of Czech beer Budweiser Budvarn is notably increasing in
Russia. Only during one year the sales of this beer brand have registered a
significant rise of 27%. The sales of premium beer have also risen by
33.8%.
The German beer market has registered positive tendencies in the first four months of 2001. In this period the sales have risen by 2,4% in comparison with those from the same period of 2001.
On foreign market German brewers sold also more beer , beer exports registering a growth of 30%.
