2. Industry news
The Radegast brewery of the Plzensky Prazdroj brewing group, the SABMiller ownership, has noticed a rise of 11% in beer sales up to over 1 million hl in the first half of 2002, if compared to the same period of previous year.
In the first half of 2002 Radegast has also increased the exported beer volume by 57.5% year-on-year and has become the second largest beer seller in Plzensky Prazdroj group as well as in the Czech Republic.
On July 16, 2002 the Chinese brewer Beijing Yanjing Brewery Co. revealed its plans about the purchasing of 38.4% in Guilin Liquan Co. for US$12.5 million for cash.
Around 250,000 tons of beer per year is produced by Guilin Liquan Co. and it is mainly sold in southwestern cities Guilin, Nanning and Liuzhou.
Beijing Yanjing has an 8% share in China's beer market, with over 85% of the Beijing market.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is providing an EUR8.5 million loan and EUR20 million revolving working capital facility to Malteurop Ukraine and Malteurop Eastern Ukraine, subsidiaries of the largest malt producer in the European Union, Malteurop SCA of France. 3. Malt markets and prices.
Brazil is reported to have purchased part or all of its 2003 plus some 2004 needs, prices paid in Europe were about EUR 270,- for 2rS malt and EUR 240,-/250,- for 6rW malt, FOB Antwerp, in bulk, cad.
Market mood in all grains, maybe specifically in malting barley and in malt is very bad, as a surplus is seen everywhere. One has to be careful, neither the barley crops in America and Australia look good, nor the overall grain crops in North America, Argentina, China and the Balkans.
