News Articles

Brewery news USA, NY: The Swift Water Brewing Company launches in Rochester
A new brewing company opened its doors to the public on January 14 in Rochester, WROC-TV reports.

The Swift Water Brewing Company is located on Mount Hope Avenue, near the Ford Street Bridge. The owners say they've already been brewing for 14 years.

The "swift water" name comes from the co-owner's time as a swift water rescue instructor and white water kayaking instructor.

"I loved to brew beer, and serve it to people, and chat about it so this sounds like the perfect venue," beamed the brewery's co-owner, Andrew Cook.

The brewers say they chose the spot on Mount Hope Avenue partly because brewing needs a solid foundation and the building already had a thick concrete floor. They say it also helped that it's in a cool part of the city.

Brewery news USA, MO & KS: Mother's Brewing Company to start selling its beer in Kansas in February
Mother's Brewing Company plans to expand its distribution range. Starting in February, the Springfield-based brewery will send beer to Lawrence, Kansas, OzarksFirst.com reported on January 14.

According to a news released on Mother's website, the brewery will partner with Central States Beverage Company.

"We couldn't be more excited about making new friends in Lawrence and spreading craft beer love," said Mother's owner Jeff Schrag. "We have been so fortunate with our success in the Kansas City market and Lawrence was the logical next step for growth."

Brewery news Canada, ON: Cartwright Springs Brewery expects to be brewing soon at new facility in Pakenham
Inside Ottawa Valley reports that the owners of Cartwright Springs Brewery expect to be brewing soon at their newly built facility in Pakenham, a small village near Ottawa.

Founded by André Rieux with partners Eduardo Guerra and Hien Hoang, Cartwright Springs will brew all of its beer with water from the natural springs on the property, and will sell them on-site in distinctive 1 litre blue glass bottles.

Rieux tells the paper that he expects to have the brewhouse in operation within the next few weeks, and will open the Kickstarter-funded tasting room and retail store to the public in the spring.

Brewery news USA, OH: New craft brewery may open in Nelsonville by May
If all goes as planned, a new craft beer brewery will be in production by May in Nelsonville, woub.org reported on January 14.

Three Columbus-area residents — including Jason Warren, who is originally from Albany — plan to open Multiple Brewing Co. at 82 W. Washington St., according to Warren.

"I think Nelsonville is a community that's ready for a craft beer," said Warren, who is a home brewer and will serve as brewmaster at the Nelsonville facility.

"I've been brewing since 2005," Warren said, adding that he's gotten positive feedback on his beers from people in the craft beer business.

"I love to see people react when they try my beers," Warren said, explaining that it's not unlike the satisfaction a cook gets from making a meal that people enjoy.

Four beers that Warren currently makes — an American amber ale called Fat Chris, an India pale ale (IPA) called Citra Slobber, a Russian imperial stout and a lower-alcohol session IPA — will be the brewery's year-round beers. Warren said seasonal beers also will be produced.

Warren said the operation will be a nano brewery because of its small size. The equipment will be able to may one barrel of beer at a time, or ...More info on site

Brewery news Canada, BC: Cumberland Brewing opened in namesake village of Cumberland in Comox Valley
Cumberland Brewing opened its doors on December 23rd in its namesake village of Cumberland in BC’s Comox Valley, CBN reports.

Founded by two couples – Darren Adam & Michelle Forslund and Caroline & Mike Tymchuk – the brewery is located next door to Riders Pizza, a popular restaurant owned by Caroline and featuring pizzas created by Mike, a veteran brewer who worked at Spinnakers Brewpub in the 1980s, and founded Calgary’s Wild Rose Brewery in 1996.

After several years away from the brewing industry, Mike is back at the kettles at Cumberland, where he will be brewing a constantly rotating line-up of beers. The brewery features a tasting lounge that seats 20 people and a retail store selling 1 litre squealers, 1.89 litre growlers, and 8.5 litre “party pigs” of Cumberland beers. Kegs will also be available for draught sales at several local establishments, but the main focus will be on direct sales at the brewery.

Brewery news USA, NJ: Tuckahoe Brewing Company to move to new location soon
Tuckahoe Brewing Company, currently based in the Ocean View section of Dennis Township, is positioning itself for a growth spurt through its upcoming move to a higher-profile location in Egg Harbor Township, The Current reported on January 14.

With the larger leased space on English Creek Avenue and new equipment purchased from a North Carolina brewery that recently closed, the owners of the 3-year-old craft beer operation expect to increase production.

Pending a transfer of its brewery liquor license and a few renovations inside the building, they hope to be up and running by April or May. The 10,000-square-foot space is inside a building owned by RSL Inc., near the corner of English Creek and Reega avenues in the English Creek section of the township. The new site is six times the size of the Cape May County location, which will close when the new one is ready.

Tim Hanna, one of the brewery’s owners, said they recently purchased a 15-barrel brewhouse – a large-scale piece of equipment that will allow the company to double its production once it is fully in use.

“We currently produce about 500 barrels a year,” said Hanna, who is an English teacher at Mainland Regional High School in ...More info on site

In a ceremony attended by 300 guests including His Excellency the Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, Mrs Charlene de Carvalho - Heineken and hosted by Jean-François van Boxmeer, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of HEINEKEN, the state of the art brewery was unveiled, Nasdaq reports.

Brewery news Belarus: Beer import down 16.2% in January – November 2014
Beer import in Belarus declined by 16.2% in terms of volume in January-November 2014 as compared to the same period in 2013, charter97.org reported on January 16.

A total of 1.108 mln hl was imported in the country over the reporting period, whereas in money terms the import amounted to $59.3 mln, declining by 28.6% from the same period in 2013.

The two main suppliers – Russia and Ukraine – both reduced shipments of beer to Belarus: Russia by 7.8% and Ukraine by 36.3%.

Experts believe the decline in import is due to the administrative regulations imposed by the government last year.

Brewery news UK: Low-alcohol beer sales rocket in Scotland since introduction of lower drink drive limit
Sales of low-alcohol beer have rocketed in Scotland since the introduction of the lower drink drive limit, retailers have claimed.

Figures show a huge surge in demand for products since the new laws came into force in December, meaning the average man can have just a pint of normal-strength beer before driving and woman only half a pint, The Scotsman reported on January 16.

Supermarket Tesco said sales of low-alcohol products had increased by 80 per cent since the law came into force, while independent stockists agreed there had been high demand.

Bars have also witnessed a higher demand for low-alcohol products, as well as smaller measures such as 125ml glasses of wine, the trade body for Scottish pubs said.

The new rules lowered the alcohol limit for drivers from 80mg to 50mg in every 100ml of blood, bringing Scotland into line with many other countries in Europe. The limit remains higher – at 80mg – in England and Wales.

Peter Sherry, owner of The Beerhive shop in Edinburgh, which stocks 200 different kinds of beer, said he had noticed far higher demand for low-alcohol products.

“We have always stocked a certain number of beers which are under four per cent alcohol,” he said. “We also ...More info on site
