Brewery news The Philippines: San Miguel Food and Beverage completes P34 bln follow-on offering
Amid bearish market conditions, consumer powerhouse San Miguel Food and Beverage Inc. (SMFB) completed a follow-on offering worth P34 billion, widening its public float and allowing its parent conglomerate, San Miguel Corp., to raise fresh funds for expansion, Inquirer.net reported on November 10.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on November 9, SMFB said 400.94 million of its shares had been sold at P85 a share.

This represents less than half of the maximum offering of 1.02 billion secondary common shares, including oversubscription option, that SMFB was authorized to sell to the public.

“[With] challenging market conditions, the follow-on [offering] was already a success and this will bring their free float near 12 percent,” BDO Capital & Investment Corp. president Eduardo Francisco said in a text message.

BDO Capital is among the lead local underwriters for the offering, along with BPI Capital Corp.

JP Morgan Securities Plc, Morgan Stanley Asia (Singapore) Plc and UBS AG Singapore are the joint global coordinators while Deutsche Bank AG Hong Kong and Goldman Sachs (Singapore Plc) are the joint bookrunners. Standard Chartered Bank is the financial advisor.

With the completion of this follow-on offering, SMFB’s shares gained by 2.97 percent at the stock market to close at P84.95 ...More info on site

Brewery news UK: AB InBev relaunching Bass pale ale in the UK
AB InBev is relaunching Bass pale ale in a bid to “reignite the premium ale category”, the Drinks Retailing News reported on November 12.

The brewer said 35.5cl bottles of the 5.1% abv ale will be available through selected retailers and pubs from December.

Bass is described as “the world’s first pale ale”, and it was first brewed in 1777 by William Bass in Burton on Trent.

AB InBev is now looking to bring the historical brand back to the UK to invigorate the premium ale category. Bass has long been brewed in the UK but much of the volume has been exported internationally as a super-premium ale. It is particularly popular in Japan.

The beer is clear and coppery in colour with a creamy, off-white head. The pale ale is dry, with tasting notes of malt, caramel and light pine hops.

A spokesperson for the brewer said: “Bass is a pale ale pioneer and we can’t wait to reintroduce shoppers to this historic brand, whose name lives on as a hallmark of great-tasting beer. The pale ale category has many good players, but Bass is the only one who can say that it has been on board the Titanic, flew on the Concorde and ...More info on site

Brewery news Ghana: Heineken introduces its 500ml bottle and 500ml can in Ghana
Heineken on November 7, 2018, introduced its 500ml bottle and 500ml can onto the Ghanaian beer market, Yen.Com.Gh reported.

The launch took place at Smoke'N Barrel in Labone and saw a huge attendance from people from all walks of life.

The decision by the beer brand which is distributed locally by Guinness Ghana Breweries Ltd. (GGBL) to introduce the new bottle was due to the fact that it was bound to increase and drive more variety on the country’s beer market. Again it was an innovative move to offer beer drinkers a whole new choice in their selection of size and quantity.

Shedding some light on GGBL’s move to introduce the Heineken 500ml onto the market, Carsten Schemmer, the Marketing Manager for Lagers at GGBL said, “Heineken seeks to introduce innovation and variety to the Ghanaian beer market and to deliver premium product experience to Ghanaian beer drinkers.” He added that “the new Heineken 500ml bottle offers consumers a larger pack size with a new and refreshing choice thus presenting consumers with a new choice in their selection of their favourite beer brand.”

Some of the distinguishing features of the new Heineken bottle, according to the Marketing Manager included the ...More info on site

Brewery news Liberia: Heineken launches three new beers in Liberia
Heineken, one of the leading international premium beer brands, in partnership with a Lebanese-owned Abi Jaoudi and Azar Trading Corporation in Liberia, on Saturday, November 9, introduced its newest brands, Sol, Legend (extra stout) and Star Beer on the Liberian market, the Liberian Daily Observer reports.

These three new products, according to Heineken management, will join Heineken and Amstel, which have been on the Liberian market for over 30 years.

Heineken International representative, Andre Woldt, said these new brands, which have already been introduced to other African markets, will add more spice to consumers’ taste of the beverages.

He said that Legend and Star Beer will be sold cheaper than the current beer and stout on the local market.

Woltd assured customers of Heineken International’s commitment to customer satisfaction.

Barley news Canada: Malting barley quality very good despite weather challenges
Despite the challenges experienced during the growing season and harvest, the overall quality of Western Canada’s 2018 malting barley crop is very good, CMBTC reported on November 8.

While there has been a wide range of protein reported this year, the average protein content of 2018 crop samples received at the CMBTC has been higher for all three main malting barley varieties (AC Metcalfe, CDC Copeland and AAC Synergy) than the past two years.

The 2018 crop samples of AC Metcalfe, CDC Copeland and AAC Synergy all showed very good germination energy. The also displayed lighter water sensitivity and higher rapid visco analysis (RVA) values than recorded last year. The lighter water sensitivity may simplify steep cycles in process, and high RVA values suggest good storability for 2018 crop.
