Brewery news

Wolf Brewing Co. is headed to Mechanicsburg, PennLive.com reported on May 7.

Brewery owners Derek and Elaine Wolf, who are active on the brewing circuit and have the hardware to prove it, will open a 7,000-square foot facility in the Market Square portion of Landmark Legacy Park, located off South Market Street.

The neighborhood style community is under construction and will have more than 680 homes along with commercial space. The Wolfs anticipate turning on the brewery’s taps as early as 2020.

The facility will encompass a brewery, taproom, lounge and kitchen with indoor seating for between 100 and 120 guests. In addition, guests can sit on an outdoor patio during warmer weather for special events and yard games.

The taproom will serve comfort food with a gourmet twist. Beer will be brewed on a 10-barrel system and cover traditional and non-traditional styles along with seasonal offerings.

The high school sweethearts have immersed themselves in the world of brewing.

“We started entering local pouring events/competitions and Beer Judge Certification Program sanctioned competitions across the country,” Elaine Wolf said. “That unbiased feedback is truly invaluable.”

The Wolfs have accumulated 118 awards from all 50 states with 54 different beers at home brew and commercial competitions. They are fresh off a win at Harrisburg Beer Week where they were voted first place brewery at the Little Big Beer Fest.

Derek has brewed beer since 2011. Following a severe accident in 2013, he decided to take his hobby to the next level.

“We realized life is incredibly short and to live your true passion to its fullest,” Elaine said.

Derek is a BJCP Beer Judge and enrolled in Siebel Institute’s Advanced Brewing Theory Program. He has also collaborated with dozens of breweries. The two have taken various commercial beer courses and are studying to take the Certified Cicerone exam.

For the Wolfs, who grew up in Mechanicsburg, the town is a natural fit for the brewery. It’s also close to Harrisburg, Hershey and Carlisle.

“We love Mechanicsburg and the greater Harrisburg area, and look forward to giving back to various charitable organizations within the local community,” Elaine Wolf said.
